Superman copyright

The family of Jerry Siegel are now the holders of half the copyright of Superman. And very soon the Schuster estate may get back the other half. Which would mean for the first time DC comics dosent own Superman. I'm glad the family got the rights back and can only hope that they keep it as I am sure DC will try to keep them locked in litigation for the longterm so they don't have to pay up like they should.

Secret Invasion

This is the best done thing in quite a while. I am actually interested in this, and maybe they could use it to fix alot of mistakes made with characters over the years.

Animated ramblings

So I finally had some free time and sat down to watch the numerous animated shows and movies that I have been meaning to watch for quite a while now. the first one I threw in the DVD player was Justice League New Frontier which was based on the comic of the same name. And let me tell you they did a great job with this from the artwork to actually taking the material seriously this is a great animated film. Placed during the red scare of the 1950's it is the perfect backdrop to really highlight each of the characters. Batman is done wonderfully with Jeremy Sisto doing some truly awesome voice work. And its nice to see Hal Jordan making a comeback instead of using Kyle or John Stewart. I liked it.

Next we had Doomsday which ties heroically to make the death of superman story worth a damn. Which anyone who read it knows is a chore and a half. The main problem with this is of course a big part of the original problem of the character of Doomsday is extremely weak and basically just shows up for the fight and then is gone. Then its really just going through the motions to get Supes back with longer hair of course just like the 90's version of him. Didn't care for Anne Heche as the voice of Lois she is just to grating. Adam Baldwin was fine as Superman. I did like that they made Lex more similar to his silver age counterpart. A genius with huge ambitions and they folded the corporate tycoon thing in as well. I always felt they took away the genius thing to easily from Lex. that is one of the things I always liked about he and Superman fighting. That in the end Lex may have very well been smarter then Supes. So it was nice to see that dynamic in play once again. End result the movie was okay.

Next I checked out The Batman Lost Heroes. Yet another alien invasion is coming to destroy the DC Universe and here is the Justice League to stop them. Never really took to this version of The Batman but still feel they've done a decent job with the character. Have found it more interesting since they introduced the League. The character interaction was good really liked Green Arrow who seems to be having a bit of a renaissance in all media lately. Other then that I thought the story was a little laborous and the wrap up a bit too quick. It was ehh.

And last but not least is the Spectacular Spider-Man, which I am glad someone is finally doing a new Spidey cartoon. I really feel Spidey has never had a defining cartoon like Batman TAS or the Fleischer Superman. I am digging the look of the series though I think Aunt May looks a little young except for the grey hair. Otherwise the look is a great start for this new show. My nitpicks so far revolve around the characterization of Peter. I know they are trying to keep the character fresh but the wisecracking seems to come off more mean spirited then him being nervous and over compensating. At times he comes across like a punk. Now I know the show is new and I think overall it has a done a good job but I do hope thats something they work on. And they are doing a great deal of laying ground work with showing Flint Marko before he becomes Sandman and talking about MJ like they did in the comic before she showed up. I think this could really be a great show. I'm sure they'll iron out the bugs and hopefully this will be the best Spidey yet. I like it.

Now one last thing would someone please write a memo that you don't have to have an alien invasion to get a super team together. Justice League, Avengers and all the more. I mean you are making an animated movie about super heroes for god sake. Just use super villains. I know they say it'll be cheesy or they cant tell a good story but come on!!! I would much rather see the Justice League take on the Legion of Doom then some nameless alien menace. And as for the Avengers heel at least use the Skrulls as the bad guys. No instead they use some cheesy race we'll never see again and why because it was in the Ultimates. Well then tell the story and don't make Captain America such a weak damn character! And could someone also tell the producers we are keen on seeing some other superheroes get tv shows besides Supes, Bats and Spidey. I mean what about Green Lantern or Captain Marvel? I choose not to mention the horror that was the last Fantastic Four cartoon.
Now why can't we get this tv show. This is from Matt Humphreys blog check it out.

New Kong art

New page from Kong from his upcoming issue of Adam Zero. Check out his blog to see more great pages from the issue. He is doing some really cool stuff and the plan he has laid out as to how everything is going to look is pretty sweet. I think everyone will really enjoy this issue!

Still working on the new script for the second issue of Spy Killer and also working on the super secret Ronin project. Not to mention finishing up the second story arc on Adam Zero and beginning the work on the mother of all arcs that I've been laying out since issue number one. If someone could pick out all the groundwork I've laid they are very astute!

Along came a Lyger

A character design of Lyger coming soon to and issue of Adam Zero. He'll be making his entrance before you know it. So stay on the lookout for this standout character. Who is a favorite of many of the creative team members. He along with a great deal of other characters will be introduced in upcoming issues of Adam Zero.

Also some good news "Kong" is now working on his issue issue of Adam Zero. The plot idea was by "Kong" himself and I banged out the script a while back while he was working on Venger/ Footpath. Now that he has finished up that very cool crossover he is starting work on Adam Zero. YEAH!!!

Spykiller page

New page from Spykiller Art: Marcelo Salaza, Inks: Kal J Moon, Tones:Lorde Lobo. This book is coming together very quickly and very nicely. The guys are doing a great job and I think I'll get an outside letterer before I take a crack at it. Though I usually like to do my final edit as I letter. If I can't find someone to my liking I'll bang out the letters quickly. Something tight and sharp to help with the noir feel. I start the second script this weekend.

Speaking of which almost finished up the script for issue 11 of AZ and the super secret project I am working on has the first issue complete and I'll be starting the second soon enough. When I can say more I'll be sure to post about it.

Issue 3 is moving along with the lettering and four is be drawn and inked as we speak. Indyplanet should have Issue #2 up shortly as well.

Watchmen

The Watchmen movie is underway and they finally released some stills of some of the characters. This is one of Nite Owl, the rest can be seen at . Watchmen Movie. Don't see how a two hour movie is going to be able to capture everything that is the epic that is The Watchmen. Or if they'll go as dark as it really should be, hopefully they won't ruin it. I've always enjoyed Moore's work particularly loved his Tom Strong series and Supreme, which were great homages to the comics of old. But Watchmen will always be the work he is best known for. Shame that the man who really made The Watchmen will most likely never see a dime from the movie. Have to just love Hollywood.

King of Comics

So I got my copy of King of Comics Jack Kirby in the mail yesterday by Mark Evanier. I would highly reccomend it to any comic book fan or fans of artwork in general. The pages are littered with Kirby art that is amazing and awe inspiring. It will always be one of my greatest desires to own a piece of original Kirby artwork. Pick it up people it is wonderful.

New artwork

New page from and upcoming issue of Adam Zero. Pencils by Mark Torres and inks by Vinh-Luan Luu. This in my opinion is some of the best work done to date. These guys are just hitting it out of the park. I fully intend to try and twists Mark arm to get him to do more then just the one issue. But even with that I would be happy because he is doing such beautiful work and really capturing the characters in a way that I personally love. And the inks are doing just as good a job of showing off the work as I have ever seen. Hopefully my scribbling and mainacal writing dosen't ruin it.

Jungle Girl Pencil Test

Another great pencil test done by the wonderful Dave Hoover. Great style along the lines of the old pulps which of course I enjoy.

So another day of voting is here. Hopefully something along the lines of a winner will come out of it. If it is mixed I bet we see this run all the way up to summer. But we'll just have to wait and see. Maybe cooler heads will prevail but I doubt that. Ego has a way of making smart people very, very dull.

Batman Pencil test

Very cool Batman Pencil test. Done by the guys at Club Cartun and they did a nice job. I'm a sucker for pencil tests.

New tryout

This is an Adam Zero tryout by a talented young artist by the name of Raymond Francis. I found him over at DW, and we will probably be seeing more of his work in Adam Zero. I'll keep you all up to dateon things.
I should also have some more stuff to post in the next few days. Issue #2 is off to the presses and work is underway to finish up the lettering on Issue #3 and get the backup ready. Which right now should be a Marshal Tyme story but one never knows. There are a few other chcracters who may peek their heads out shortly. Also would like to get the Creed backup story in there as well at some point.
